Miles Apart
by Hadley Hoover

Amazon.com Review, May 31, 2001
Reviewer: Mimi Seamens
from The Friends of the Chatfield (MN) Library

Hadley Hoover has written an enchanting, romantic tale of two strangers traveling across country. Miles Apart is an interesting look at how seemingly innocuous events and meetings can be life changing. A good reminder that first impressions, even when inaccurate, are lasting.

The story follows Molly Winstead and B.J. Kendall on a trip from California to Minnesota and on the humorous, and at times aggravating development of a relationship between these two people.

Ms. Hoover's fun characters are likeable and entertaining. Her book reveals how important it can be to remain mindful of what people are saying to us in ways other than verbal, and about the importance of skills we acquire and use daily, but often take for granted.

The plot develops along a simple path, but has many entertaining and humorous moments. A lasting message of Hadley Hoover's first novel is that we have remarkable abilities to compensate and adjust for our weaknesses. It's a book that will help you appreciate the resourcefulness, unpredictability and beauty of human relationships.

Miles Apart is a rewarding, fun summer read.
